Steele + Edith is a collection of wearable first-generation stories, designed in Los Angeles by Brian Tu and Wesley Tsai.
Born in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California, the two initially yielded to parental pressure and attended business school in a conventional pursuit of success. The desire to pave their own paths eventually won, however; Tu spent six years working for fabric agents and production consultants, while Tsai worked for four years specializing in womenswear product development at Brock Collection, Doen, and CO.
With each collection, the designers reshape their Asian American upbringings into an expression of homage for their hometowns, heroes, and predecessors. Steele + Edith represents a particular balance between paying tribute and unlocking potential—the sacrifice of who we are to bring what we seek into reality.
